Eagle sighting was bittersweet

I want to thank the people of Highland County who have consistently fought to maintain the natural character of this area.
For an hour last Sunday (Oct. 9), I had the opportunity to watch a bald eagle circling above the open meadows on Red Oak Knob and Tamarack Ridge in search of prey. It was wonderful beholding such an elegant creature enjoying the open sky. I delighted in the experience. However, the moment was bittersweet due to the realization that one day 400-foot tall windmills could populate this bird's habitat, and the bald eagles will no longer be there.
As I looked down on Red Oak Lodge, I wondered why anyone would do such a thing. What a shame it would be to have to travel to the wilds of Alaska to see our national symbol in its natural habitat when we can already do that here.
Why not leave some areas of our state undeveloped? Does it not benefit us all?
