Lack of volunteers takes toll on Millboro squad
      WARM SPRINGS - If you're considering ways to contribute to your community, there's a volunteer group in Millboro that could certainly use support. The Millboro Area Rescue Squad is suffering from a lack of trained Emergency Medical Technicians and other volunteers to maintain medical services, and without them the fate of the squad remains precarious.

Wind energy, pool project stir debate on county's future
'You can take it or leave it,' supervisor says
      MONTEREY - Must be an election year. Highland supervisors were challenged on the merits of both industrial wind energy, and a county swimming pool Tuesday for the better part of an hour. Highland residents Bobby Pryor and Rick Griffin questioned the board on these issues with concerns about how taxpayer money was being spent.

A soldier's meal: Bath man recalls Korea
      MONTEREY - Sam Donaldson Jr. has a way of making the best of less-than-perfect situations. For example, a Christmas in war-torn Korea could have been worse for a company of Army soldiers, but for Donaldson's efforts. Donaldson, 78, has lived a long, happy life. He is a regular part of the Bath Senior Center.

Wind company gets extension to appeal
      CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Since its permit was denied June 22, wind energy developer Liberty Gap has been granted an extension on the amount of time it has to ask the state to reconsider its decision. Liberty Gap had applied for a certificate to build and operate a 50-megawatt wind utility on Jack Mountain in Pendleton County.

Get trained now
      An EMT Basic training course will be held beginning July 21, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Millboro Area Rescue squad building in the industrial park in Millboro. There is a $1 fee for Highland and Bath residents, which covers all text and materials. The training course will meet every Monday and Wednesday until Dec.12. Testing will be held at the end of the class.

     The sixth Annual Blue Grass Book Bank Fourth of July Children's Parade drew hundreds of participants and spectators Wednesday morning in downtown Blue Grass. Sunny skies matched smiling faces and forced the homemade ice cream eaters to eat fast.       WARM SPRINGS - After a year and a half away from county government, Sherry Ryder returned Monday to the Bath County planner position. In addition to being county planner, Ryder is the zoning official and is qualified to help with erosion and sedimentation permits.

Bath man becomes manager for Grand Home Furnishings
      WARM SPRINGS - Gary Lane Bogan of Warm Springs has been appointed as manager of Grand Home Furnishings in Lexington. Bogan began his employment with Grand as a truck driver and delivery person. He also worked in the warehouse in Covington before being promoted to the sales floor after seven years. He continued his career with Grand when they moved to Lewisburg, W.Va.

Club learns floral design
      WARM SPRINGS - The Hot Springs Garden Club met Monday, June 25 at the Warm Springs Presbyterian Church. Hostesses for the evening were Glenna Myers and Virginia Nowlin. Mary Ellen Williams introduced program guest Gloria Lindsay, co-owner of Mountain Laurel Creations, who displayed several gift items in addition to silk and fresh floral arrangements.
