Liberty Gap wind may view county as target

Editor, The Recorder,

At last week's board of supervisors' meeting, I described the potential for the Liberty Gap wind turbine project entering Highland County as "very speculative," words that I took directly from a conversation several months ago with an industry analyst.

It has been pointed out to me that the facts do not substantiate this view, and after reading more on Liberty Gap's documentation, I accept this as valid criticism.

Therefore, I would modify my comment to state that Liberty Gap developers may view Highland County as a target for inclusion in a 50-turbine project, but for this to occur, they must initiate a significant chain of events, all of which include checks and balances.

The potential is real, but given the current status of their project in West Virginia, it would be difficult to predict how and when it could eventually impact Highland.
