Want to know what's going on in Highland? Keep up with Highland County events through the Highland County Public Library at: www.highlandcountyvirginia.org. Place your own events on the calendar (see rules) and make sure everyone knows what your organization is planning and when. The Highland Recycling Center will be at Mill Gap Ruritan grounds July 20, 21 and 22; and Stonewall Ruritan grounds July 27, 28 and 29.

Friday, July 20 The Wildlife Center of Virginia presents "A Journey Down the Appalachian Trail," a program featuring live wild animals, at the Highland County Public Library at 10 a.m. This free program is part of the T. J. Reader's Virginia Trails summer reading program and is intended for the entire family. "Fiesta Monterey" at Highland Elementary School held at 7 p.m. featuring a short skit written by students and performed by them in Spanish. There will also be a Mexican pot luck feast. Wednesday, Aug. 1 Practice for fall sports begins for students who have completed their sports physical. Physical forms may be picked up in the high school office from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Turn in all activity logs by library closing time at 12:00 p.m. Mill Gap Ruritan Club annual Earth Roast at the Ruritan Park on Valley Center Road, 11 miles south of Monterey. Food will be served beginning at 5 p.m. with entertainment and cake walks to follow.
