Students honored for SOL achievement
      MONTEREY - Few could have been more proud than the 27 elementary school students last Thursday night except, perhaps, the teachers and administrators of Highland's youngsters and their parents. Last spring, 57 third-, fourth-, and fifth-graders took the statemandated Standards of Learning tests in four subject areas, and of those, 27 of them passed all four.

Bath County Sophomore Class Sells Mums
     The Bath County sophomore class is selling fall mums to raise money for class events. Any sophomore can take an order for a large mum or extra large mum.       For the second straight week all three former Bath County football players and their college teams were winners. In Williamsburg, Jake Phillips helped lead the William & Mary team to a thrilling 48-41 double overtime win over Liberty.

      CLIFTON FORGE - Fall semester enrollment figures at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College are projected to be the highest in 10 years. The announcement follows the completion of a successful summer session that resulted in an increase of 30 percent over 2006.

MES students start year with new gym gadgets
      MILLBORO - So, you thought P.E. was the best class of the day when you were in school? Well, now MES students know it is. Physical education teacher Connie Forsyth introduced two new gym elements to MES students during back-to-school week: a rock climbing wall and the challenging sport of speed stacking.
