Bath reading club begins Library Notes Sharon Lindsay, Librarian, Bath County Public Library
WARM SPRINGS - June 20 marked the beginning of the free Summer Reading Club at the Bath County Public Library. Story teller Barry Mines will be here to captivate and entertain us. This year's program is titled, "Virginia Trails," and revolves around the 400th anniversary of the settling of Jamestown.
Public libraries across Virginia are planning special programs to make the summer fun for children and encourage them to keep reading. We will delve into colonial life, American Indian culture, and sail with pirates up and down the coast. Come join us for lots of fun.
When children attend their first program, they will receive reading logs to keep track of what they read this summer. They will also be able to pick out a book of their own to keep, as long as supplies last. Children who complete the program will receive a certificate in recognition of their efforts.
The summer reading program is held annually to encourage children to read and enjoy books all summer long. Reading helps children retain and improve their reading skills, explore anything from outer space to imaginative fantasy, and laugh and share the experiences.
