Georgianne Maloy and Sandra Crummett, both of McDowell, were selected state winners in Home Economics contests at the State 4-H Short Course in Blacksburg last week. They competed against eleven other constants who were selected winners in their district contestants earlier in the year.
The passing of another landmark was noted recently when the canopy overhanging the sidewalk on the front of Monterey Inn was removed. Two similar roofs are left in town, on the Curry building and the C.R. Gutshall store.
Mr. and Mrs. Benny Ralston and children and Mrs. O.R. McCray and Kristen Botkin and Ivan Gutshall called on Mr. and Mrs. E.B. Armstrong and family Saturday night.
The Democratic nominee for Governor of Virginia will be chosen Tuesday in the Democratic Primary Election, which will feature only that one contest. Vying for the nomination against J. Lindsay Almond, Jr., is Howard H. Carwile of Richmond. Almond is presently Attorney General.
The Rev. Dr. George H. Rector will preach at Beulah Presbyterian church Sunday morning at 11o'clock and at Seig-Hudson at 7:30 p.m. this Sunday. The public is invited to attend.
Mrs. Richard Hevener and daughters Carolyn and Sharon of Ohio are spending some time with the former's mother, Mrs. F.C. Wimer.
