Millboro Happenings
By Gina Hamilton

Millboro Christian Church is hosting Vacation Bible School Monday, July 23, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., with a variety of events for any area children from preschool to sixth grade. The theme this year is "Water Works Park" because the activities - crafts, Bible stories and songs - will be water-related, according to Pastor David Williams. The free program also includes snacks. For more information, call (540) 997-0664 or 997- 0770.

Sign up for the EMT basic course that starts Wednesday, Aug. 1, is encouraging, with 10 people so far planning to take the class at the Millboro Area Rescue Squad, according to the Central Shenandoah Valley EMS Council. Sign-up continues until Monday. Call 540-886-3676, or visit online at www.csems.vaems.org.register. The cost is $1 for residents of Bath and Highland counties; $100 for others. Those who plan to take the training need to first participate in a CPR class, which will be held this Saturday, July 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the rescue squad.

We are surely in the dog days of summer and a new book by author Jon Katz, "Dog Days, Dispatches from Bedlam Farm," makes for delightful reading as Katz details the joys and travails of operating the farm and dealing with his four dogs. The book can be requested at the Goshen Public Library, which many of us here use who live on this side of the mountain.

Youngsters frolic in the Millboro town pool Tuesday on another hot and humid day. The pool is open Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from 1- 6 p.m. (Recorder photo by Gina Hamilton)
I was pleased to receive the first submission that was dropped off at the Millboro Country Store. The item and photo will go into next week's column. If you have e-mail, send news and jpeg photos to me at hamiltonwriting@hotmail.com.
