Millboro Happenings
By Gina Hamilton

The Millboro Area Rescue Squad is back in operation after passing a state inspection last Friday, July 20. The inspection was conducted by Paul Fleenor from the Office of Emergency Medical Service at the state's Department of Health. According to squad First Lt. Susan Plecker, Fleenor checked all paperwork to document the following: a current agreement with the operational medical director (a doctor); agency personnel records; vehicle maintenance records and current insurance policy; patient care reports; radio license agreement; mutual aid agreement with neighboring rescue squads; and that the local agency has a quality management policy. He also inspected the vehicles for required equipment and that they were in good working order to transport patients. "Right after the inspection, we notified the E-911 coordinator (Bath County Sheriff's Office) that we were up and running," Plecker said Monday.

The annual firemen's carnival rolls into town next week from Wednesday to Saturday, Aug. 1-4, hosted by the Millboro Volunteer Fire Association. Carnival grounds are being set up now in the industrial park. Buffalo Brothers Amusements will bring the show to town from 7-11 p.m. each night. The carnival is one of two major fundraisers for the local fire association. It will be followed by the annual "Millbilly" bluegrass festival on Saturday, Sept. 15.

The recycling center for plastic bottles, paper goods, cardboard and metal continues in operation a few miles away on Route 42 in Millboro Springs. All other items should be taken to the waste disposal site in Hot Springs.
