Monterey school history on display

Old memorabilia from Monterey High School is on display in the gymnasium of The Highland Center.
MONTEREY - Pictures and memorabilia from Monterey High School are on display in the gymnasium of The Highland Center. The public is invited to come and view the display, which will be up through the first weekend in September. After that, many of the pictures and documents will be archived and preserved at The Highland Center for safekeeping.

The memorabilia was collected by many dedicated volunteers and staff for display at the Monterey High School reunion, classes 1922-66. Generations of MHS attendees, graduates and staff gathered at The Highland Center on Saturday and Sunday, July 14-15, for the event. The last collective Monterey High School reunion was over 15 years ago, and this was the first to be held in the old school building.

Comments, suggestions and inquiries about the reunion are welcome. The Highland Center is continuing to collect information and memorabilia and will be the caretaker of these items for future reunions and displays. The center is also the keeper of an MHS history book, compiled by Hazel Hannah Corbett and Louise Rexrode, which includes names of all classmates, teachers and school staff members from 1922-66. Those with memorabilia who would like it returned should contact the center at (540) 468-1922 or highlandcenter@htcnet.org.
