Pull together to 'go green' in the future Editor, The Recorder,
I am really surprised about all the hype surrounding wind energy. If the only bad thing about the structures is who will remover them after their usefulness ends, I believe that to be a pretty lame argument. If they are constructed of metal then they will be valuable enough to pay for their own disposal. And I repeat, a few concrete pilings left in the ground will harm nothing.
People, let me put this thought out there: Would we sooner tear down a ridge in West Virginia or Kentucky or southwest Virginia to save a few ridges from having some wind turbines to look at?
For Pete's sake, it's not going to involve every ridge in the area. Look at the pumped storage project, which has always generated less electricity than it takes to recharge the upper reservoir but helps to level the load.
The only real objection I have against those wind turbines is the necessity of having beacons on them to warn aircraft at night - very bothersome against the night sky.
But at least these things are not belching out CO2 and SO2. We have to work together and find solutions for the future. The populations will continue to increase and our children have as much right to electricity as we do. The rest of the world is playing catch up to the United States.
And by the way, if as much money was invested in wind energy as the Iraq war, we could exceed our electric consumption needs by about 50 percent.
If you want to go green in the future, we must pull together.
