Rampant rumors running wild around the county the past couple of months have been put to rest with the announcement Cucci's will take over the operation of the Varsity grill across from Bath County High School beginning the first week of September. Victor Cucci, in business in Covington for nearly 30 years, will bring his popular menu to the restaurant side of the building while continuing to operate the convenience store and gasoline service. Pat Haynes, owner of the building, said about Cucci, "It is impressive to see someone totally committed to the restaurant business." Cucci's son, Giuseppe, will manage the Hot Springs location. Carry-out will be available but just as in the Covington location, all food will be cooked to order. A potential lack of parking "is the only thing I'm concerned about," said Cucci, but he added a crowded parking lot would "be a good problem to have." (Recorder photo by Charles Garratt)
