| FAIRLEA, W.Va. - Here's something to love about summer: The West Virginia State Fair.
It whirls into Fairlea, on Route 219 just outside Lewisburg, Aug. 10 (Friday) through Aug. 18.
There's a world of things to do and see and enjoy and marvel at, and, above all, to eat.
You'll find no better walkingaround food than at the West Virginia State Fair. Chances are it could be a blazing hot, damply humid day. Don't let that deter you from eatin'. Just bring a bandana to mop your brow, and dig into the world's best steak sandwich, slapped in your hand by a West Virginia cattleman. The world's best ribbon fries - a pile of crispy cholesterol-laden, golden delights. The world's best lemonade, freshsqueezed. The world's best doughnuts, hot out of the grease. If you spot your doctor among the fair crowds, duck behind a tent and keep eating. Those who love fair food have their planning down to a science: Eat first-thing, walk around, then hope you can eat again. Justify this by telling yourself, the fair's only in town once a year.
There's always great entertainment - crowd watching being perhaps the best, and the rides can be fun, if you enjoy whirling
