Millboro Happenings
By Gina Hamilton

The annual Clark family reunion was held Sunday, July 29, at the Millboro Ruritan building. Those attending were: Bobby Clark; Blanche and Edgar Madison; Kay Howard; Crystina and Ben, and Frank and Ruby Hodge; Wanda and Terry Clark; Brandon Madison and Samantha Newcomber; Danny George; Melissa Williams; Billy and Damen Madison; Wilma Shuey; Nancy Campbell; Bill and Sandy Reed; Danny and Sharon Madison; Gwen Broce; Patty Huffman; Brittany Putnam; Carl and Christopher Clark; Vivian Matheney; Junior and D.J. Jack; Zack Madison; Prisilla and Jared Madison; Cristy Clark; Florence Lyle; Phillip Clark; Bob and Diana Clark; Mark and Ashley Clark; Mike, LaDawn and Alexis Clark; Charlotte Hurdle; Jessica Allen; Paul and Nancy Clark. A covered dish lunch was enjoyed by all.

By all accounts the annual firemen's carnival was a hot time in town from Aug. 1-4! Hot weather, hot barbecue chicken, great rides and parade greeted those who came to enjoy the scene. Reports are that the volunteer fire association also made a profit, which goes back to the community as the association supports events such as the annual American Cancer Society's Relay for Life and Fire Safety Week at school. This year, money will also go toward furnishing the department's new addition.

Douthat State Park will host a back-to-school Beach Bash on Saturday, Aug. 18, beginning at 11 a.m. It's an opportunity for youngsters to enjoy a last bit of summer fun before heading back to school. The event will include making cardboard boats and paddling them around a course on the lake. A small beach admission fee will be charged. For more details, call (540) 862-8100, or e-mail Douthat@dcr.virginia.gov where a full list of programs is available.
