Conservancy named beneficiary of Southern Accents
HOT SPRINGS - Southern Accents magazine and Homestead Preserve named The Nature Conservancy as the beneficiary of a portion of the proceeds from the 2007 Southern Accents Showhouse, which is located in Homestead Preserve's Sheep Meadow neighborhood adjacent to The Homestead.
"The Nature Conservancy is pleased to have been selected as designated charity for the Southern Accents Showhouse at Homestead Preserve," said Bill Kittrell, director of conservation programs for The Nature Conservancy in Virginia. "Protecting natural places begins in our own backyards. The proceeds donated from Homestead Preserve and the Southern Accents Showhouse will help contribute to conservation work locally at our 9,000-acre Warm Springs Mountain Preserve, and the protection of a globally important landscape- the Central Appalachians."
Homestead Preserve's cogeneral manager Don Killoren, says, "Selecting The Nature Conservancy as our charity partner was a natural choice, we have maintained a close working relationship with The Nature Conservancy since we first purchased the property in 2002, and sold 9,250 acres of our original purchase to TNC to preserve this important landscape for perpetuity. All of our development plans at Homestead Preserve continue that mission- limiting construction to no more than 325 acres, leaving 97 percent of our original land purchases in its pristine state, and making sure that our homes reflect the historic architecture of this region."
Open for public tours Aug. 30-Dec. 30, 2007, the 2007 Southern Accents Showhouse will be open Thursday-Saturday from 10a.m.-5 p.m and Sundays from 1-5p.m. The house is closed Mondays-Wednesday. Tickets can be purchased in downtown Hot Springs at the Homestead Preserve story center. For more information visit www.southernaccents.com or www.thehomestead.com.
