In reply to rumors that Aileen, Inc. in Monterey may be closing, Fred Frye, manager of the garment factory here, issued a statement on the work slowdown. Frye gave no indication that the plant was in danger of closing and said the factory here will be experiencing a shorter work week until garment orders pick up. He attributed part of the slowdown to lagging sales in the retail market and the fact that this is generally a slow time for garment manufacturers since they are in the midst of a season change.

The Heavenly Echos of Staunton will appear in concert Sunday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. at Mt. Pisgah Church in Warm Springs. The event is sponsored by the deacons of the church.

From 50 Years Ago, August 19, 1932: Struck down when she ran in front of an approaching automobile in Staunton Saturday, little Elizabeth McCoy sustained slight bruises and lacerations.

Tracy Phillips, athletic director at Bath County High School, announces the annual Bath County Chargers Meet the Team Night will be held Saturday, Aug. 21 at the high school. The public is invited to attend and according to Phillips, any persons donating two bars of soap and a bath towel are entitled to a meal.

The Industrial Development Authority of Bath County will meet on Thursday, Aug. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the courthouse in Warm Springs. Among the business to be discussed after the grant applications for a medical center and a water works system in Millboro.

The Highland Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy met July 24 at the home of Elizabeth H. Swecker. Following the business session, a program, "Music of the Confederacy" was presented by Mrs. A.E. Johnson.

All Bath County wool producers are reminded that the local ASCS office will be conducting a referendum between Aug. 16-27. Wool and lamb producers are asked to vote for or against continuing the agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the American Sheep Producers Council. If producers approved this agreement up to 4 cents a pound on shorn wool and 20 cents a hundred weight on unshorn lambs would be withheld for the Council.
