AUGUST 22, 1957

The Highland County Chamber of Commerce has launched a drive to obtain funds to hire a public relations man for Highland in an all-out attempt to attract industry, tourist traffic, and to promote in general the welfare of the county. Caskie Norvell of the firm Caskie Norvell and Associates of Staunton has offered his services at considerably less that his usual fee since he plans to move to Monterey.

The resignation of Mrs. Audrey Simmons, R. N. , Public Health Nurse in Highland County for the past two years, has been accepted by the Virginia State Department of Health, effective Sept. 1. Several applications are being considered to replace Mrs. Simmons.

Seabrook Siron of Doe Hill, who spent a few days with his daughter, Mrs. John Beverage and family in Strait Creek, called on his cousin, Mrs. Erma Harris, Thursday afternoon.

Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Omar King were Tommy King and family; Mr. and Mrs. Omar H. King and son; and Mr. and Mrs. Ned Graham and daughter of Staunton.

Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Swadley were Mrs. P. S. Maloy, Mr. and Mrs. Shannon Maloy , and Miss Georgianne Maloy.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Richey of Kansas City, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Howard of Alexandria, and Mr. and Mrs. Guy Siron of Staunton, called on C. L. Syron over the weekend. The ladies are nieces of Dr. Syron.

75 years ago, August 19, 1932: A number of our delinquent subscribers raise chickens and we wish to state that the Recorder will accept them and allow market price and credit their subscription accordingly. Until further notice, this holds good.
