MARLINTON, W.Va. - Highland and Bath high school golf teams started their seasons last week with a non-district match Wednesday at Pocahontas.
The Chargers won the five-team contest with a low score of 175.
Greenbrier West finished second (177), Pocahontas County finished third (205), followed by Richwood (222) and Highland (230).
The medalist was Bath's Drew Newmarker, who recorded the low score of 41 over nine holes.
Highland's low scorer was Dustin Chapman at 43.
"I'm real pleased with the effort in our first match," said Charger coach Terry Bradley. "It's a good win, a good start."

FINCASTLE - The Bath County Chargers scored a 171 and finished second behind James River's 160 at the Knights' home course, Botetourt Country Club, Tuesday afternoon.
Parry McCluer (192) finished third, Covington (200) fourth, Highland (222) fifth, and Craig (245) sixth.
"That's the first time we haven't finished dead last," said Highland coach Don Ferrell. "I'm really proud of Morgan (Kelly)," he said. "She improved by 11 strokes from the last match."
Medalist Matt Dillon of James River recorded the low score of 40. Travis Williams had the low score for Bath with a 40 and Dustin Chapman held Highland's low score at 50.
The humidity added to the heat made playing conditions uncomfortable so, like the previous two matches, the teams only played nine holes.
The teams play Thursday at Highland. "We'll try to get 18 in at Needle's Eye," said Ferrell.
Bath is 1-2 on the year while Highland is 0-3.
