In Brief . . . Hghland School Board Wednesday, Aug. 15, the Highland County School Board met to take action on appointments and personnel.

| Debbie Botkin was hired as a cafeteria worker and Leann Shreve as an instructional assistant for the elementary school.
Donna Burns and Lisa Munchel will be substitute cafeteria workers and Munchel and Bridget Nelson substitute teachers.
Written job descriptions for all positions as submitted by Superintendent Gary Blair were approved.
The board accepted a grant of $58,254 from the Virginia Preschool Pilot Initiative and asked county supervisors to amend the budget to include the money. The board supported the No Child Left Behind resolution requesting changes to its requirements.
A sixth-grade field trip to the Chesapeake Bay was tentatively approved.
Blair, at his suggestion, was directed to form a safety audit committee to analyze the schools' Crisis Management Plan.
Ethel Frampton was thanked for her proposal to consider hiring the athletic director as coach of the boys' JV basketball team for the 2007-08 season.
Hiring new coaches will be on the agenda for the next meeting, Monday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. in the school library.
