Millboro Happenings By Gina Hamilton
Parents of students from preschool to grade seven have an opportunity to tour Millboro Elementary School during an open house next Wednesday, Aug. 29, from 6:30-8 p.m. They can meet the principal, Martha Reish, and teachers, and ask questions they may have. School opens on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
A pork barbecue is planned for Saturday, Sept. 8, beginning at 4 p.m., as a benefit for the Millboro Area Rescue Squad. Bring your appetite to the rescue squad building just inside the industrial park off T.C. Walker Road. The menu includes: hash brown casserole, green beans, coleslaw, bread, dessert and beverage. Money raised will help to support the squad.
Inquiries are already coming in from people about the annual Millbilly Bluegrass Festival ahead on Saturday, Sept. 15, in the Millboro Industrial Park off T.C. Walker Road. Performers this year will include Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, Michelle Nixon and Drive, and local bands 220 South, Skyline Boys, Plain & Simple, and the Maury River Bluegrass Band. Gates open at 10 a.m. and the music starts at noon. More information is available by calling (540) 939-4246, or (540) 290-1222. This event is hosted by the Millboro Volunteer Fire Association to support the local fire crew and station operation.

| In the next few weeks, while I'm busy with family visits, please send news and photos for this column to Cynthia Coleman at the Recorder's Mitchelltown office, bathoffice@tds.net, or drop items off in the Recorder envelope at the Millboro General Store on Main Street.
