Kim Manion's summer school students tend the garden at Millboro Elementary School. The garden was planted this spring with direction from Ellen Reynolds from Mountain Soil and Water Conservation District. This summer Reynolds visited the students to check the progress of the gardens and teach them how to check for plant pests. Students found and removed cabbage loopers, which would eat the cabbage, and learned how to deadhead flowers to prolong bloom times. Students have harvested cucumbers, tomatoes and green peppers and are anxiously awaiting potatoes. (Photo courtesy Mountain Soil and Water Conservation District)
