Garden club tours arboretum

HOT SPRINGS - On Aug. 13 the Hot Springs Garden Club took walking tour of the Edith J.Carrier Arboretum at James Madison University in Harrisonburg.

The group left with an enhanced appreciation for nature and a greater understanding of precious natural resources.

The arboretum is an oasis in a city. It consists of 125 acres of native oak-hickory forest. The arboretum provided the opportunity to see a wide variety of cultivated gardens, shrubs and wildflowers, along with native endangered species. The club hopes to return in the future and attend the many plant sales open to the public.

After lunch and a short meeting at the Wood Grill, many members extended the day with shopping.

The next meeting of the club is Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Warm Springs Presbyterian Church. A program titled "Nature's Seasonings and Brews" is planned. Guests are welcome.
