Contractor licensing courses scheduled
CLIFTON FORGE - Dabney S. Lancaster Community College will host a Virginia Basic Contractor Business Licensing class on Saturday, Sept. 22, and again on Saturday, Oct. 20, on the main campus in Clifton Forge.
The class will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the DSLCC Center for Continuing Education and Workforce Services. The instructor is Ed Meyer of Catawba Builders. There is a fee which includes a manual.
As of Aug. 21, 2006, the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation's Board for Contractors requires all contractors applying for a new license to successfully complete this eight-hour approved basic business course as a prerequisite to licensure. This course is designed to provide a basic look at the statutes and regulations that govern contractor licensing in Virginia, including a review of the different types of licenses available, and the qualifications for each, standards of practice, prohibited acts and how to avoid violations of the regulations. The class may be taken as a pre-licensing or remedial course.
To register, contact Judy Clark, non-credit coordinator, at (540) 863-2863 or jclark@dslcc.edu. Deadline to register is Sept. 14 and Oct. 12. The toll free number is (877) 73DSLCC, ext. 2863.
