New officers installed for the Shenandoah Valley Partnership

HARRISONBURG - The Shenandoah Valley Partnership announces its new officers for 2007-08.

Neal Menefee of The Rockingham Group will be serving as the Chair of the board of directors. A long-time supporter of SVP, he has been a board member since 2003.

"As a Valley native who spent 23 years living and working outside of the region, I do appreciate the many attributes that have historically made this area one of the best places in the U.S. for someone to live and for companies to do business.

"While that history is impressive, it is the future that captures my attention. If the Valley is to continue to enjoy the economic prosperity to which it has been accustomed, it must transition to a new environment that will enable it to embrace a technology-based world economy. In order to maintain the high quality of life that we enjoy here, the region must also be careful to anticipate and strike a proper balance between economic growth and the challenges that accompany it.

"The Shenandoah Valley Partnership can and will provide the mechanism for leaders from the public and private sectors to work together in a collaborative fashion to do the things that are necessary for the region's economic outlook to be bright and promising. That is why I am excited about our future and honored to have the opportunity to serve as chair of the partnership for the next two years," said Menefee.

Larry Powell, lending and sales manager for Farm Credit of the Virginias, will serve as vice-chair, and Brian Shull, economic development director for the city of Harrisonburg, will serve as treasurer.

The Shenandoah Valley Partnership serves the counties of Augusta, Bath, Highland, Page, Rockbridge, Rockingham and Shenandoah, and the cities of Buena Vista, Harrisonburg, Lexington, Staunton
