Bear captured; campground reopens

WARM SPRINGS - Last week it was reported the Blowing Springs campground was closed due to an aggressive bear roaming the grounds searching for food. The bear had threatened campers because of the lack of food in the surrounding forest.

The United States Forest Ser- vice in Ashwood reported the bear was trapped by the Virginia Game Department on Wednesday, Aug. 29, during the night.

Because the rouge bear has been removed from the area, Blowing Springs campground has been reopened. Campers should still be cautious whether camping at this campground or any other. Do not leave food or trash in campsite area, but keep them lock in a vehicle overnight.

For more information, contact the Warm Springs Ranger District at (540) 839-2521.
