Have you seen this man? If so, contact the Alleghany Sheriff's Department at 540- 965-1770. This composite sketch is of an alleged police impersonator who assaulted a Bath County woman last week, Wednesday, Sept. 12, in Covington. The victim left Roanoke and stopped for gas in Troutville to get gas before heading home. Approaching Fincastle, she noticed a car closely following behind her and believed this vehicle followed her into Covington. In an attempt to both flush out and lose the vehicle, she veered off U. S. 220 onto a side road. It was there the vehicle suddenly flashed a blue light, for which she stopped. A man approached the car in a dark uniform with light blue patches on the sleeve. He asked her to step out of the car and then to turn around and face the vehicle. At this point, the man made a sexual comment, to which she turned around to face this supposed law enforcement officer. When the victim turned, he assaulted her by striking her face hard enough to knock her to the ground. Once on the ground, the victim was able to kick the man, escape his reach and get back into her vehicle and drive off. She drove to the Bath County Sheriff's Office and was then taken to the Bath Community Hospital by the rescue squad, where she was treated and released. The man in questions is white, around six feet tall, between 185 to 200 pounds, has a moustache and dark hair cut in a close military style, and wore wire-rimmed glasses. He appeared to be in his early 40s. The suspect vehicle was described as an older mid-sized, dark colored sedan, possibly a Ford Taurus. The vehicle had a blue revolving light. Investigating the assault for the Alleghany Sheriff's Department is Captain S.C. Haynes. The victim's name is being withheld at this time, there are no leads. If you have any information pertinent to this case, please contact the Alleghany Sheriff's Department.
