Library kicks off fall discussions
LEXINGTON - The Friends of the Rockbridge Regional Library launch their book discussion program on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at noon, in the Piovano Meeting Room of the library at 138 S. Main St., Lexington. This year's theme is the 400th anniversary of Jamestown.
The book is Helen Rountree's, "Pocahontas, Powhatan, Opechancanough: Three Indian Lives Changed by Jamestown." Discussion will be led by Karenne Wood, poet, activist, member of the Monacan Indian tribe and Ph.D. candidate in anthropology at the University of Virginia.
The program will last about an hour. Participants may bring lunch.
On Oct. 24, the featured book is William Kelso's "Jamestown: The Buried Truth." The discussion will be led by Rebecca Benefiel, assistant professor of classics at Washington and Lee University.
On Nov. 14, the book is James Horn's "A Land as God Made it: Jamestown and the Birth of America." David Coffey, Lexington historian and VMI instructor, will lead the discussion.
Multiple copies of all titles are on the new bookshelves at the library and ready for check-out. Everyone is welcome to attend whether or not they have read the books, but participants are encouraged to read the titles in advance and to participate in the discussions.
