Millboro Happenings By Gina Hamilton
 | | Some Millboro kids took advantage of the heavy traffic this past weekend from the Millbilly Festival with a lemonade stand down at Millboro General Store. Pictured are (l-r): Sydney and Gabriele Herscher, Molly and Max Watkins and Ian Elliott. They got the OK from owner Ernie Townsend to set up business outside under a nice shade tree. Tie-dyed attire was the uniform! (Photo courtesy of Aimee Watkins) |
| ¦ The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Millboro Elementary School. This year's theme will be "Enter the Kingdom of Reading - Where Books Rule!" The fair will run from Thursday, Sept. 27 to Tuesday, Oct.9, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., daily. The book fair will offer items of interest to students, teachers and the community, selling books, posters, pencils and educational computer programs. Student items will range in interest from preschool to seventh grade, with a really cool medieval theme. There will be two nighttime book fair opportunities. On Thursday, Sept. 27, the fair will begin at 7 p.m. On Thursday, Oct. 4, on parent conference day, the fair will be available from 1-4 p.m. and again from 4:30-7p.m. See you there!
 | | What light through yonder audience breaks, could it be the sun and some warmth? It isn't a night for Shakespeare at Lime Kiln Theater in Lexington, but instead Millboro resident Bert Carlson pulled out the gardening gloves on a cold Sunday night during intermission to keep his hands warm. Carlson and his quintet filled the outdoor bowl theater at Lime Kiln with an eclectic mix of jazz takes on everything from classic pop tunes to Russian folk melodies. |
| ¦ Reminder: The Citizens For Education meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. All parents and teachers are invited.
¦ Feel free to drop off news and photos for this column at the Millboro General Store, or if you have e-mail, send the information (and photos in jpeg format) to: hamiltonwriting@hotmail.com.
