Achievement Josh Williams
HOT SPRINGS - Josh Williams of Hot Springs began his junior year at the United States Air Force Academy on Aug. 9. in Colorado Springs, Colo. The day before classes started, he was a part of a commitment ceremony and dinner. Williams has committed to serve at least five years in the Air Force, and more, if flight school is in his future.
Williams began his third year with many obligations and honors. A trumpet player, he was chosen as section leader of the USAFA Drum and Bugle Corps, with 25 soprano trumpets under his command - close to half the corps. For his squadron, he was chosen as standards and evaluation noncommissioned officer (NCO). Williams is in charge of freshman class military knowledge testing, where he administers, grades and records all their tests. He also is in charge of room and cadet inspections.
Williams was chosen to monitor and track data for the Falcon Satellite Program. He received his wings for soaring, and spent three weeks at Altus Air Force Base in Oklahoma, working with large C- 37 cargo planes. He is a space operations major with plans to enter the Astronaut Corps later in his career.
His mother, Debbie Williams and grandmother, Cindy Gray, visited Williams during parents weekend and spent six days with him.
Williams is the son of Gilbert and Debbie Williams, and grandson of Jerald and Cindy Gray, all of Hot Springs. His younger brother is Jonathan Williams, a junior at Bath County High School.
