White achieves master deputy treasurer status

MONTEREY - The Treasurers' Association of Virginia has announced Highland County's deputy treasurer Lois E. White has been awarded the title Master Governmental Deputy Treasurer, under the Master Designation program administered by the University of Virginia's Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service and the School of Continuing and Professional Studies.

The program was developed to enhance the professionalism of local government officials and their staff and is sanctioned by the Virginia General Assembly.

The program, which takes a minimum of three years to complete, required a combination of extensive education and governmental experience. The process is ongoing educational experience which does not end with receipt of the master designation. In order to maintain the master designation, the deputy treasurer must satisfactorily complete a minimum number of hours of continuing education after receipt of initial designation.

Additional information about the program is available from Albert W. Spengler, Director of Certification Programs, Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service, (434) 982-5518 or e-mail aws@virginia.edu.
