Becky Armstrong named 2007 outstanding nurse
HOT SPRINGS - Bath Community Hospital has announce that Becky Armstrong, RN and community service director, was awarded the 2007 Nurse with Outstanding Contribution to EMS by the Central Shenandoah Emergency Management Service Council. Becky is a native of Bath County and is on staff at Bath Community Hospital. She is responsible for infection control, employee health, utilization review and community outreach.
"Becky is a true friend to all the rescue squads in our service area," says Perlista Henry, local Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate and recipient of the 2004 Outstanding EMS Provider Award from the council. "She is concerned with our health - she makes sure we get our annual vaccinations and helped us through a recent wellness program. She also includes us in programs and educational opportunities offered by the hospital. She just does so much for the community in general."
Henry adds that Armstrong was instrumental in placing AED equipment, used to resuscitate a cardiac arrest victim, in area schools and recently became a certified CPR instructor to help CPR educators.
Armstrong is also involved with the local chapter of the American Cancer Society, the Valley Health Council, and is the county liaison for the Central Shenandoah Emergency Medical Services Council. She also represents Bath County on the board of zoning appeals and is a member of Lifeline Ministries.
"We are fortunate to have someone like Becky on our staff," says Debbie Lipes, Bath Community Hospital CEO. "She's a true health care provider and a relationship builder, bringing people together and making things happen. The EMS award is very appropriate"
Each year, CSEMS awards outstanding EMS service in the region to include categories such as outstanding EMS volunteer, physician, agency, administrator, and more. 2006 EMS winners in Bath and Highland counties were Burnsville Rescue Squad for Outstanding EMS Agency, Michael Spurgeon for Senior Rescue Squad Member of the Year, Bath Community Hospital for Outstanding Contribution to EMS and Paul Klein of Highland County as outstanding Pre-Hospital Provider for 2006. Henry was awarded 2004 Outstanding EMS Provider and is now on the board of directors for the Central Shenandoah EMS Council and is vice president of Hot Springs Rescue Squad.
