DAR meets at Buckhorn Inn
CHURCHVILLE - The Sarah Murray Lewis Chapter of the DAR met on Sept. 8 at the Buckhorn Inn in Churchville.
Regent Sarah Wolters called the meeting to order. There were 21 members and three guests present. Barbara Reid gave the invocation.
Sarah Wolters thanked hostesses Mrs. Jerry D. Davis, Mrs. James Duke, Mrs. Paul Harold, Mrs. J. E. Jenkins and Mrs. Oscar Nuckolls.
Vice-regent Allie Maxwell introduced guest Del. Steve Landes, the son of chapter member Betty Landes. Landes spoke on the U.S. Constitution and how the Virginia members help to write it. He also spoke on how the Standards of Learning for children in kindergarten through third grade are learning about the men and the constitution. Betty Landes gave a short talk on Constitution Week, which was Sept. 17-23.
Leta Wimer gave the librarian's report that the chapter gave the National DAR Library "Bath County Marriages, 1853- 1899,"written by Patricia G. Haymond Viellevane. The chapter is also sending 11 Reader's Digest hardback books to the veterans hospital in Salem.
Connie Metheny said the chapter received the Chapter Achievement Award and Completed President General Certificate. The chapter will celebrate its 30th Anniversary as a chapter in November.
Next meeting will be at Third Presbyterian Church, Staunton, on Oct. 13.
