Following a public hearing on the matter at its regular monthly meeting Tuesday night, the Monterey Town Council passed an ordinance prohibiting the Sunday sale of wine and beer in the town of Monterey. Citing a possible conflict of interest, Mayor John Appleford turned the meeting over to Councilman Bickley Fox, who asked members of the public to offer their opinions on the proposed ordinance. District Court clerk Leona Gutshall said that every day in her job she saw the effect of alcohol abuse and was not only in favor of the ordinance but also opposed the sale and use of alcohol on any day of the week.
The start of school has brought a recurrence of the problem of head lice in many of the area schools. Because it is a disturbing problem for school personnel and parents, it is important to understand basic information about head lice. The current difficulty with head lice in the schools is disagreeable but not dangerous. The schools and school nurses are spending a great deal of time on inspections and classroom control methods. But the final solution depends entirely on the cooperation of every single parent.
