OCTOBER 3, 1957

The homecoming services at McDowell Methodist Church Sunday drew a large crowd from both the local area and from a distance in spite of a steady downpour of rain with wind and slippery roads.

The Rev and Mrs. George H. Rector of Berkley Springs, W.Va. were Sunday dinner guests of Misses Susie and Mary Maloy and Mrs. Ruth Wade. The Rev. Rector is a former pastor of the McDowell Presbyterian Church.

Mr. and Mrs. C.R. Sipe attended the Jamestown festival and visited in Richmond over the weekend.

Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Link of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. visited Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Gum last week. Mrs. Link is a cousin of Mrs. Gum and a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Waybright. She was reared in the community.

Seven persons were found guilty in County Court Tuesday and two others were fined for having unlicensed dogs.

State Trooper Paul Odell, who has been stationed at Monterey for the past three years, has been transferred to Augusta County and will be stationed in Churchville. No announcement has been made about a replacement for Highland, but it is understood from official sources that a trooper from the Alexandria area will be brought here.
