MARION S. BENNETT
COVINGTON - Marion Splawn Bennett, 79, of 306 Dairy Street, Covington, and formerly of Bath County, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 2, 2007 at his residence.
He was born on June 7, 1928 in Bath County, the son of the late Elsie Bennett. In February of 1952, he married his loving wife of 42 years, Annie G. Bennett, who preceded him in death on July 28, 1994.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served his country during the Korean conflict.
Mr. Bennett worked as a heavy equipment operator for a number of years. After his retirement, he worked as a farm caretaker. He was a member of Sinking Springs Presbyterian Church and the Coleman Brinkley VFW Post #4204.He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting.
He is survived by five children, Gerald Lee Hevener Sr. of Clifton Forge, Ronnie Lynn Bennett, Donald Eugene Bennett, Patricia "Patsy" Bennett Black, and Richard Earl Bennett, all of Covington; a sister, Mable Martin of Burnsville; 12 grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Juan Ramos.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007 at Burnsville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Shaver, the Rev. Lennie Stinnett, and the Rev. Ray Riddleberger officiating. Interment will follow in Burnsville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chris Black, David and Michael Bennett, Corey Carr, Jerry Hevener Jr., Billy Black, Juan Ramos, Carl Chestnut, Rodney Bell, and Dempsie Hevener.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 6, at McLaughlin Funeral Home in Hot Springs and at other times at the home of Patsy Black in Covington.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Coleman Brinkley VFW Post #4204, Hot Springs, Va. 24445.
