Hands and Harvest festival offers something for everyone
MONTEREY - This weekend the Highland County Hands and Harvest Festival celebrates the fall foliage season with arts and crafts, bluegrass music, hay rides and seasonal foods. For more information call (540) 468-2550. Below are the scheduled events:
Friday, Oct. 12
¦ 9 a.m. - At the farm of Southernmost Maple Products in Bolar, maple pork barbecue and chicken dinners, apple butter and cider making, hayrides, live music, pumpkins and gourds, and maple doughnuts.
¦ 9 a.m.-5 p.m. - Used book sale, Highland County Public Library, Monterey.
¦ 10 am.-5 p.m. - SPCA annual sweater sale, Highland County Crafts, second floor.
¦ 11 a.m.- 6 p.m. - Farmers' Market, The Highland Center, Spruce Street, Monterey. (540) 468-1922.
¦ 5 p.m. - Second annual Little Switzerland Cloggers' Family Fun Night for the whole family. Monterey firehouse. (540) 468- 2122.
Saturday, Oct. 13

¦ Noon - Antiques Appraisal Fair, Highland Museum and Heritage Center, McDowell.
¦ 1 p.m. - Little Switzerland Cloggers perform, North Water Street, Monterey.
¦ 5-8 p.m.- "Second Saturdays" Pumpkin carving contest (submit carved pumpkins by 4 p.m. at Mill Alley Courtyard). Judging at 5:30. Cash prizes.
Sunday, Oct. 14
