The view from the bridge at the upper end of Lake Moomaw is beautiful this time of year even when the lake is low and the Jackson River has become a trickle. As of Tuesday, the Army Corps of Engineers continues with normal for October discharge of 182 cubic feet per second with only 42 cubic feet per second flowing into the lake. The lake elevation Tuesday morning was 1,561.12 feet, about seven feet above the minimum pool elevation of 1,554. Due the drought conditions, the U.S. Forest Service has issued a fire ban on most outdoor fires.
