Other candidates in Highland and Bath
Stuart Hall has served eight terms on the Bath County Board of Supervisors, missing only the 1992-95 term since first being elected in 1972. He is highly respected and regarded by his fellow supervisors, though he regularly takes an individual stand on issues. When contacted by The Recorder, Hall was "too busy" for an interview. He is running unopposed for his ninth term representing the Williamsville District.
Carl Chestnut is challenging incumbent Percy "Buzz" Nowlin for the Cedar Creek District. This is his first try for elected office. Even before filing for the supervisor's race, Chestnut had become a regular at board meetings, often rising during the public comment period to present an issue to the board. He strongly and vocally supports action to restrict development within the county and make sure developers pay for infrastructure costs. When first contacted by The Recorder for an interview, Chestnut was busy "putting up hay." Since that time he has not returned calls.
Jerry Rexrode of Monterey is also seeking a return to his seat on Highland's board of supervisors. When first contacted by The Recorder for an in-depth discussion of his candidacy in this election, Rexrode told the newspaper, "You know, I really don't care about that, to be honest with you. I've got too much going on, and I try not to do too much anymore because I'm too tired."
