Statler to speak at homecoming

DOE HILL - Doe Hill United Methodist Church will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Oct. 21. Sunday School will start at 10 a.m. Worship services will begin at 11:15 a.m.

The guest speaker will be Don Reid, former member of the Statler Brothers. Reid, along with his brother, Harold, has been a longtime songwriter, with such hits as "Flowers On The Wall," "I'll Go To My Grave Loving You," and "Do You Know You Are My Sunshine," just to name a few.

Since the Statlers' retirement, Reid has continued his love of writing by penning three books: "Heroes and Outlaws of the Bible;" "Sunday Morning Memo- ries;" and "You Know It's Christmas When" (the last one written with his sons).

He has two more in the works, one called "The Statler Brothers: Random Memories" (written with brother, Harold), and a novel, "Christmas Eve," which will be released in 2008. Also, the Statlers will be one of the 2007 inductees into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in Nashville on Oct. 29.

A carry-in meal will follow the morning services. An afternoon of music will start at 2 p.m., featuring the Doyle Moats family. All are welcome.
