Pvt. George
Henry Alphin Jr.
FORT BENNING, Ga. - On Sept. 6, Private George Henry Alphin Jr. graduated from the U.S. Army Infantry School at Fort Benning. The day before graduation, which is family day, he received a promotion.
Currently he is stationed at Fort Gordon for 22 weeks of additional training.
In February, Alphin will receive Airborne training and serve as an information technology specialist.
He is the son of George H. Alphin Sr. of Goshen and Peggy Jolly of Lexington.
Also from Goshen are grandparents Lyle and Julia Alphin, and Edgar Hall and the late Peggy Hall.
Pvt. Erin E. Kerby
COLUMBIA, S.C. - Army Pvt. Erin E. Kerby has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
She is the daughter of John Kerby of Mill Creek Road, Millboro, Va., and a 2007 graduate of Wilson Memorial High School, Fishersville, Va.
