Millboro residents participate in search for hunter

| MILLBORO - Three residents participated in the search for an elderly lost hunter early last Tuesday - Essie Heffler, an EMT and member of the local rescue squad; Danny Arbogast, an avid hunter who knew the terrain, and firefighter J.J. Ingram.
According to Heffler, the man spent night in the woods in Pocahontas County; he was able to walk out, at least four miles.
According to the Marlinton Detachment of the West Virginia State Police, Donald Sergent, 84, of Hurricane, W.Va., entered the woods Monday, Oct. 22, near Camp Allegheny on U.S. 250 while hunting with his nephew, Greg Sergent. When Donald did not return at the designated time, Greg contacted the Pocahontas County 911 Center. A search began, but was terminated due to darkness.
On Tuesday, Oct. 23, the search began at about 8 a.m.
Donald Sergent was located by volunteer searchers at about 10:30 a.m. in good health. He was transported to Pocahontas Memorial Hospital for a precautionary evaluation.

| Responding agencies were the Pocahontas County Sheriff's Department, the Marlinton Detachment of the WVSP, U.S. Forest Service, Huttonsville K-9, Pocahontas County Fire and EMS, Pocahontas Office of Emergency Management, search and rescue members from Pocahontas, Webster, Nicholas, and Pendleton counties, and private individuals.
The searchers thanked the Red Cross and all who provided food and beverages.
