DAR makes plans for programs

STAUNTON - The Sarah Murray Lewis Chapter of the DAR met at Third Presbyterian Church, Staunton on Oct. 13.

The meeting was called to order by Regent Sarah Wolters, she thanked the hostesses, Mrs. Robert C Atkins, Mrs. Richard L. Huff, Mrs. Richard W. Stogdale Sr., Mrs. A.J. Ultee and Mrs. Arvie G. Wimer Jr. Twenty-one members and three guests were present. The invocation was said by Barbara Reid. Carole Murray was thanked for making the leadership place cards.

The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States was lead by Betty Van Fossen, Americans Creed by Barbara Reid. Barbara Atkins lead the chapter in God Bless America. The Presidents Generals Message was read by Nancy May and the National Defense Message by Mary Ultee. The treasurer's report by Beckie Sherwood and minutes by Nancy May. The registrar Betty Van Fossen reported there is a new member.

Jay Jeffries gave the program on conservation and spoke about the problems with deer and bear. Jeffries is with the Virginia Department of Game and Fisheries.

The chapter signed Christmas cards that will be mailed to wounded soldiers at Landstuhl Medical Hospital in Germany.

Leta Wimer was thanked for all her work on the fall muster that was helded in September. Delegates for State Conference and Continental Congress are needed. It was announced the flag of the U.S. contest will be for fourthgraders.

DAR schools will be collecting Campbell's soup labels for equipment and many other items. They will also take some Tyson labels.

Carole Murray ways and means chair passed out Innsbrook Program and will be selling wrapping paper.

Collections were taken for the voice of junior membership fund raiser.
