Masons issue certificates of achievement

MONTEREY - Highland Masonic Lodge No. 110 held its annual ladies' night banquet at the Stonewall Ruritan building last Saturday. In addition to recognizing the widows of past members, the lodge recognized the senior center, awarded certificates of achievement to several Highland residents.

Brother Austin Shepherd recognized Norma Echard, Patsy Propst, Jean Callison, Jane Kincaid, Margaret Smith, Helen Whitelaw, Bebe Avernell Hiner, Sandra Northridge, Joyce Hershman and Dot Shepherd for their assistance at the bimonthly lodge-sponsored bloodmobile.

District Deputy Grand Master for the 19th Masonic District Harold R. Smiley presented Dot Shepherd a check from the lodge to the Highland Senior Center.

Brother David Smith presented certificates of achievement to Betty Waggoner in recognition of her 23 years of service with Highland County Public Schools, Tommy Hevener Jr. for his outstanding accomplishment of being elected secretary of the Future Farmers of America for Virginia, and Karen Lohr for her 30 years of service with HCPS.

The Ladies of the Hiner Church of the Brethren catered the meal.

Gregory Floyd, Worshipful Master of Highland No. 110, gave the welcome, led the pledge of allegiance and introduced the officers of the lodge.

Brother Jacob Hevener recognized the widows of past members who were present including Jean Sullenberger, Dorothy Driskill, Sarah Samples, Sue Dudley and Wilma Obaugh. Those not present were Adelaide Brooks, Nellie Brown, Sue Freeman, Donna High, Dorothy Hevener, Dorothy Terry, Mable Terry, Linda Sterrett, Lucille Tarrant, Carole Johnson, Julia Rogers and Mary Gray Dolly.

The gospel group Celebration Four performed.
