Reunion
Corbett

Enjoying the reunion were (l-r) Elwood Cronk of Covington son of Joy and James Cronk, and Joy L. Corbett Cronk of Iron Gate, only surviving child of Amos and Carrie L. Kelly Corbett. (Photos courtesy Corbett Reunion Committee)
MUSTOE - A Confederate veteran of the Civil War, who served in the 18th Virginia Cavalry under Col. Imboden and the 19th Virginia Cavalry under Col. Jackson, named Mustoe Hamilton Corbett, and his wife, Victoria Jane Wilson Corbett, were remembered by descendants at their family reunion recently.

Very early on that Saturday morning one of the great-granddaughters at Mustoe may have been remembering occasions in the 1940s when she came home from the Washington D.C. area, accompanied by a very young lad trusted in her care, who was one of the great-grandsons of this veteran. They were grateful for visits to beautiful, peaceful Highland County.

This same Saturday, traveling from Martinsville to Mustoe, that same young lad, now a grandfather, may have had reflections of times past and was anticipating making new memories with "Aunt Joy" and all the many other relatives and friends.

Joy Cronk is pictured here in her elementary school photo.
Attendees signing the register were: Floyd and Dana Corbett; Gordon and Mary Ann Gillespie Corbett; David and Lisa Boxley and twin sons; Harold and Rebecca Brooks; Carol Wilson Warlick (from Indiana); Irene McAllister; Carolyn Maydian and Kaylee Scott; Jan Austin and Bob Keffer; Jason and Jennifer Fridley, Chase Tazwell and Andrew Kevin; Hazel Hannah Corbett; Mary Ann, Bruce and Christopher Russell Avery; Janet Marie and Everett Marshall and Casey; Arnet and Mary Ellen Gutshall; Grady Gutshall; Jean Gutshall McElwee; Devonia and Ron Rexrode and Lydia; Audrey Corbett; Shirley Verges; Larry and Elaine Armstrong; Patsy Corbett Herold; Ann Herold Ketcham; Ralph and Malen Eakin; Lenden Eakin and family; Samuel, Diana and Grace Eakin; Diana and Bill Smick; Steve and Renee Smick; William Smich IV; Martin Sr., and Mary Corbett; Diana Corbett Brazial and children; Marty and "Jenny" Corbett; Margaret Germon Corbett; Arlie Andrew Jr., and Laura Hope Corbett; Charles Leslie Corbett; Barbara and Bob Harold; Susan and Spurgeon Vaughn; Joy Corbett Cronk; Elwood and Jenny Cronk; Karen and Rick Givens and Jake and Jessee; Terry Cronk; Pastor Donald and Ruby Jeane Rose; and Jerry Campbell.

We believe there were others; forgive us if your names have been omitted. It was a great day. You who were not there, someone of us missed you.

Traveling home to Martinsville with a thankful heart for the blessings of the day, the problems of a flat tire and the satisfaction of knowing there is someone to follow and help us "keep going" we bet this great-grandson (one of many) might say "I'm looking forward to Saturday, July 26, 2008 at the W.H. and F.M. Fellowship Hall of Victory Chapel for the 12th reunion."

In the meantime if you attend the celebration at the veterans "Walk of Honor" on Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at Monterey - look - we have remembered our Mustoe Hamilton Corbett.
