Many families in need of adoption

Bath County Christmas Mother Trudy Woodzell (left) and BB&T senior teller Janice Webb make sure the gaily decorated shopping cart in the lobby of the BB&T in downtown Hot Springs is ready for donations. Non-perishable food items will be collected in the cart until Dec. 1 for the Christmas Mother program. (Recorder photo by Charles Garratt)
HOT SPRINGS - "Our numbers appear to be up - many new people in the program," says Bath County Christmas Mother Trudy Woodzell. "Applications have been taken and there are many needs in our community."

Donations are appreciated, says Woodzell. "We had a grandmother tell us today that the dollhouse that her grandchild received from the program is still the best and mostused toy in the house," she says. "A mother mentioned that the fuel assistance she received last January made it possible to heat their home when we had the late cold nights into the spring. She would not have been able to heat her house without the program."

Requested items include a trailer size electric range, couch and chair, standard size electric range, twin-size bed frame, full-size bed frame, and a small chest freezer. Woodzell asks any items donated be "gently" used (meaning they are clean and in good repair).

"We are in great need of people to adopt a family or an individual," says Woodzell. "Any help would be greatly appreciated."

She says cash donations will help cover heating bills this winter. "With the rising cost of oil and fuel sources, the winter could be long and hard if it is a cold one," Woodzell says.
