FSA election under way

LEXINGTON - The annual election for the Farm Service Agency county committee began Nov. 2. The Local Administrative Areas which are having an election this year are LAA 4 and LAA 5. LAA 4 consists of all Alleghany County. LAA 5 consists of all Bath County and the Goshen area of Rockbridge County. The following persons were nominated by valid public petition and are candidates in this year's election: LAA 4 - Ronald L. Bennett; LAA 5 - Ralph R. "Sonny" Clark Jr.

All candidates are willing to serve on the county committee if elected. Any "write-in" candidates must also be willing to serve if elected.

Ballots were mailed to all known eligible voters in LAA 4 and LAA 5 by Nov. 2. Eligible voters in LAA 4 or 5 who do not receive a ballot should contact the FSA office at (540) 463-7124, extension 2. Voters may vote for only one candidate, including any "write-in" candidates. Ballots must be returned to the FSA county office or postmarked by Dec. 3. Newly elected county committee members and alternates take office Jan. 1.

Ballots will be counted at the USDA Lexington Service Center, 40 Magnolia Square Way, Suite 5, Lexington, 10 a.m. on Dec. 5. The counting of the ballots is open to the public.
