Highland County Economic Development Authority
¦ Tuesday Highland's economic development authority discussed preparing a strategic plan. Member Trent Burkholder suggested the list of strategies assigned to the EDA by the draft Highland County comprehensive plan was a good place to start. Member Clay Hamilton said, "It's an ambitious program. It looks like the comprehensive plan committee has done our strategic plan for us." Among the list of strategies are reinstating a Highland Executive Committee; inviting community organizations to share long range plans and identify areas of needed technical assistance; conducting a study to determine the need for a child care center; marketing the availability of current and planned technology infrastructure; conducting a job needs and market and market openings to young adults study; supporting job and trade training; studying the need for independent living and assisted living facilities and facilitate funding if needed; attracting businesses with high-skilled jobs; and developing a call plan to enhance relationships between local businesses and the county. The EDA is carrying out a call plan currently, visiting as many businesses as possible in the county. Next month the EDA will discuss priorities and goals.

¦ The authority approved setting up an EDA booth at maple festival to encourage businesses to come to the county.

¦ The EDA went into closed session to discuss the call plan - personnel assignments and confidential proprietary information. No action was taken.

¦ The next meeting of the EDA is 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11 at The Highland Center.
