Elaine Fry of Hot Springs (left) admires one of the attractive rooms at Safehome in Covington. Education Outreach Coordinator Ethel Adams (right) was one of the staff members giving tours of the facility Monday evening at the 20th anniversary celebration of Safehome. Girl Scout Troup #734 adopted this bedroom and did the renovations Adams said. Fry brought along a box of videos, stuffed toys, dishes and other household items to donate. "People don't realize how fast you can go from everything to nothing," Fry said. Safehome serves Bath, Highland and Alleghany counties and Clifton Forge and Covington. The staff and facility provide services and safe refuge for victims of domestic violence. The Safehome office may be reached at (540) 965-5489. A toll-free 24-hour hotline is available at 1-877-393-3672. (Recorder photo by Charles Garratt)
