Off they go! Participants at Saturday's Harvest Holiday hosted by the Millboro Ruritan Club head out for a hayride around the downtown area.
A miniature horse named Zeus enjoys the attention, and grass, at the Ruritan Club site along Church Street in Millboro during the Saturday fall family fun day.
Jennifer Arlin, 9, of Millboro, enjoys cuddling with a ferret named Vixen at Saturday's petting zoo during the Harvest Holiday organized by the Ruritan club. Norma and Liz Halterman brought animals including alpacas, ducks and miniature horses.
Local writer/reporter Margo Oxendine turns storyteller after a spaghetti dinner hosted by the Millboro Ruritan Club last Saturday as part of the club's Harvest Holiday. Noting she previously worked at the Bath County Historical Society, she said people often asked about moonshiners in the region. She provided a stimulating presentation on that topic focused on the Thacker-Scott gang of the 1920s during the time of Prohibition, which resulted in the death of prohibition inspector Luther McManamay on April 24, 1924 in Alleghany County, and the assault on Bath County Sheriff Charles Gum.
The ladies of the Millboro Precinct - Bonnie Jenkins, Theresa Hodge, Mary Margaret King and Sharon Sherrard - wish to honor their co-worker at the polls, Willie Ryder. Willie celebrated his 40th year last week serving his community and country at the polls of Bath County. We believe that is a wonderful thing he has done, and an amazing record! Willie keeps saying he is going to retire, but we keep turning down his application! Way to go, Willie! (Photo courtesySharon Sherrard)
