¦ The community is reeling from the death of young John Mace, 19, last Sunday, Nov. 11, after an epileptic seizure (see related story, page 8). He was a 2007 graduate of Bath County High School and the only child of Rose Mace, a widow. Efforts are under way to raise money for funeral expenses. Donations can be made to: The John Mace Memorial Fund, First National Bank, 2812 Main St., P.O. Box 7, Hot Springs, Va. 24445.
¦ A soup and sandwich dinner will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., at Goshen Presbyterian Church, sponsored by the youth of the parish of the Pastures Presbyterian Churches. The Pastures churches are Millboro Presbyterian, Goshen Presbyterian and Rocky Spring Presbyterian in Deerfield. The all-you-can-eat meal will include vegetable soup, grilled cheese sandwich, dessert and beverage for a small cost. A quart of soup can also be taken home.
¦ An ornament-making contest continues, organized by Douthat State Park.
